About Us

A family oriented shop, Jerome Reilander is a second generation jeweller.  Working in his father's jewellery store in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Jerome learned in his early years what it meant to run a successful jewellery store.  The time spent with his father prepared Jerome for superior customer service, which he prides himself on today.

The time spent working at Plaxton's Jewellers was valuable for Jerome, however he needed to further his education.   Jerome moved to Southern California where he attended the renowned Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California.  Jerome earned himself a graduated certificate in Gemology as well as certifications in the following domains: Coloured Stone and Gem Identification, Pearls, and Diamond trading and Evaluation.

After learning the art of Goldsmith and Gemology Jerome returned to Moose Jaw and took over operations at Plaxton’s Jewellers, the same jewellery store his father owned and operated.  Running Plaxton’s successfully for six years, Jerome closed the shop and moved west to Victoria.  Jerome spent one year working on the goldsmith's bench perfecting his skills on repairs and fabrication.  While working in Victoria, Jerome met Maria Short, a young talented goldsmith who would prove to form a working relationship spanning over two decades.

Like Jerome, Maria's interest in jewellery also moved her down to Southern California.  In 1986 Maria attended the same prestigious school (Gemological Institute of America) where she obtained her certification in Jewellery Manufacturing Arts.   The completion of the program armed Maria with the skills to work on a wide range of jewellery specialties such as: repairs, fabrication, design, casting, wax carving, pearl stringing, and stone setting.  These were assets that Jerome needed to form his own shop with his plans to manufacture the highest quality Jewellery.

Settling in Sidney, British Columbia, Jerome opened his original custom house shop in 1991.  Having an idea unique to Plaxton's retail and repair shop, Jerome ventured into the highly artistic and creative area of Custom Jewellery.  Thus, Jay Lyn Jewellers was born.  Jerome's custom work has defined his store for nearly twenty years.  While still continuing to do repair work and appraisals, Jerome Reilander's talents truly shine through his original works.

Custom Jewellery

Jerome's continued journey to create fine jewellery has led him into mediums of artistic creation.  Digital Goldsmith has proved an invaluable computer program to create two dimensional images of custom jewellery.  These computer renders are done right in front of the customer, literally having their own imaginations creating a design.

To further the detail of the Digital Goldsmith renders, Jerome will have a CAD (Computer Aided Design Software) design created of the customer’s piece.  This design is a three dimensional image giving an exact picture of the finished piece before production even begins.  If changes are desired, it is much easier to change the design of an image than the final piece of jewellery.  Once the design is perfect, all the customer has to do is to say "go ahead." In ten days to three weeks, our costumers will be wearing that same piece they previously observed and designed on the computer.
